![]() "I get my brains beat out and what I got for it? Two Rolls Royces!" "Well, that ain't bad." "But you got EIGHT!" It's a boxing satire in which opportunistic promoter Samuel L. Some of the lines go something like this. Money corrupts and absolute money corrupts absolutely. Very funny film and great acting performances. Even if you are not a boxing fan, you will enjoy it. If you are a boxing fan, you will love this film, because it is real. However, as we see the hype done by these snake oil salesmen, we start to believe that Berg's character actually has a chance to win. Here you have an unqualified contender, that has no prayer of beating the champ. Moreover, we as viewers fall into the same trap that boxing fans do. Fights are fixed, promotions are staged and very rarely do you have the best fighting the best. Berg plays the "Great White Hope." The beauty of this film is the comedic way that it shows the real life corruption in boxing today. Surely many white Americans will pay to see one of their own knock down the overly cocky, black champ. ![]() What is the one thing you need to get people in the arena to watch? Well, a white challenger of course, experience not necessary. ![]() So, Jackson goes about creating a contender for the champ. No one wants to pay to see the guy, because there are no quality fighters out there to challenge him. Jackson plays a "Don King" type guy that is stuck with the problem of having a champ that might be too good. However, this film is a very funny film that also has a rather keen insight into the current state of boxing. nejiman10 liked Freeform Astronomical Clock.I have to admit that when I rented this movie, I was expecting a dumb comedy that would fail to show the reality of boxing.nejiman10 liked Stanley - the capstan based quadruped kit.Olya Gry has added a new log for uMyo - EMG muscle sensor.Hadrien Caumont liked Compact, low-power Geiger counter.Voja Antonic wrote a reply on BADGE FOR 2020+₮ SUPERCON (₮=years of lockdown).kelvinA has added a new log for Tetent Timespy.John Opsahl liked Wifi controlled stepper motor.Dave Ehnebuske has updated the project titled Nearly Useless Numerical Input System.Jim on Recreating The “Stuck Throttle” Problem On A Toyota.Alexander Wikström on All Your Pixels Are (Probably Not) Belong To Pantone.Capt McAllister on All Your Pixels Are (Probably Not) Belong To Pantone. The Commenter Formerly Known As Ren on All Your Pixels Are (Probably Not) Belong To Pantone.Kirby on Recreating The “Stuck Throttle” Problem On A Toyota.Naxes on All Your Pixels Are (Probably Not) Belong To Pantone. The Commenter Formerly Known As Ren on Hackaday Links: October 30, 2022.James W Sansom on Hackaday Links: October 30, 2022.Posted in Games, Nintendo Hacks Tagged emscripten, fceux, MoveNet, nes, posture, USB CopyNES Post navigationĢ022 Supercon: Schedule Released, And 13 Comments Just don’t add the electric-shock part, nobody needs to be administered electric shock therapy from a two inch high bright orange Mike Tyson! You can be the judge, since he bought a bunch more cartridges to unlock more license copies, you can play it too. ![]() It took around two months of disassembling the game binary, and figuring out the game logic around the characters in order to slow them down enough to make it playable, but he did manage it. To be honest, after playing the game a little, found it far too fast to be playable with posture control, as opposed to much faster button pressing, so some game hacking was required. By using emscripten, FCEUX was cross-compiled to WebAssembly, and so both the game and control side are both in the land of JavaScript. This simplified the control of the game, since it would be somewhat more work to have it run on the original NES. Being a all-round good guy, bought an original copy of the game cartridge to obtain the license, then using the USB CopyNES from RetroUSB, dumped out the game binary for the next step.Įmulation of the NES hardware was chosen, taken care of by FCEUX, in order to run the game and the posture model on the same machine. See, you can get hurt playing video games!īy starting with Google MoveNet, which is a pre-baked skeletal tracking model which can run in a browser using TensorFlowJS, he defined some simple heuristics for the various boxing moves usually performed with the game controller. After a lot of hard work has managed to add pose estimation to control the character in the NES boxing game “Punch-Out.” Surely he can’t get hurt doing that? No, but since it wasn’t fair to hurt the poor suffering characters, without taking any damage himself, he added electric-shock feedback to give the game a bit more, ahem, punch. In a slightly safer departure away from jetpack roller-skating and flinging around bolts of lightning, has been hacking retro video games. ![]()
